Something is very wrong with my c: drive on this computer. When I compare this PC running windows 7 with my other windows 7 pc the information under "users" on the other computer is correct with something like Leonard default, and public etc etc etc. I can not figure out why this computer under "users" is showing My computer, My computer, and Public. That's right My computer is showing twice. These are the three items there. I ran the disk error utility but it did not fix the issue. When I get back from Guam I might have to take it to a PC tech. So, for now I'll live with the change I made when I renamed default.jkm to default old.jkm.

No. Look again at my file path -- you will see that mycomputer is not there.
Follow my string exactly, except substitute your user name in place of mine,
and your version of JAWS in place of mine.

When I review C:\Users\mycomputer\AppData\Roaming I only see two items
the SpeakOn and Vipre folder which makes no sense to me because I
understand exactly what you are suggesting I look for to change. Nothing
else is there. Very very strange indeed.

Rick,

Very good point, and one to be emphasized. That user file overrules or
overlays the shared version whenever it's available. So that's very likely
the problem source. Leonard, when you modify the original default.jkm
file,
you create a copy in your user settings folder, so that should be the
problem file. Look for yours here, substituting your user name and JAWS
version as appropriate, and presuming you're on a Windows 7 machine:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\16.0\Settings\enu\default.jkm

Hi Leonard,
The Control + E, keystroke activates the search box in the Jaws Quick
Settings Window, or is passed thru to the current application where it
applies.
For example: in Windows Explorer, that keystroke will open the Windows
search box,
and in Outlook Express it will open the find people dialogue.
The keystroke "Jaws key + 1 on the number row" is a toggle, and will turn
keyboard help on/off.
Using keyboard help is a great way to identify keystroke functions, and
pressing the desired keystroke twice quickly will give more information on
that keystroke.
If you did a repair on Jaws, or re-installed it, and you kept the user
settings, I suspect that is where the problem lies.
Whenever you have a problem with Jaws in a particular application, the
first
thing I would do is
go to the Jaws application window, and open the "Manage Applications"
dialogue, and disable any user settings for the problem application.
More info on these things can be found in the Jaws help topics.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] keyboard manager not fixed

Since I could not fix thekeyboard manager keystroke for (ctrl e)
activate searchbox I uninstalled and reinstalled jaws v16. I just
uninstalled jaws and left the shared my computer components alone. I
think that's the name of the option for the second choice while starting
the uninstall process. When jaws was successfully reinstalled and I hit
finished all my prier settings were unchanged and jaws did not ask me to
reboot. Whe I looked at the keyboard manager the activate searchbox
keystroke at the top of the list was still missing. So I rebooted anyway
thinking that might solve the problem. Upon rebooting the only thing
that was changed was I had to fix the shortcut key to start jaws and the
logon information under the basic option. Again, the activate searchbox
keystroke still wasn't fixed. I'm at least happy that the lack of the
keystroke does not seem to interfere with my work. Curious, what does
that keystroke (ctrl e) actually do and when is it utilized?
