That would be a bad idea IMnsHO. The major reason for the indirection is
to clearly split up the app deployer and system administrator roles.
Things that would be specified in a ResourceManager would otherwise have
to be done by the sysadm, which is a bad idea (especially if this is to
run in an ASP environment...). Also, remember that this is used for more
things than DataSources. In the case of DS it is (currently!) not much
more than a link, but for (example) a mail session or URL resource it
would be *the* endpoint with all info in it, so it's impossible to
remove that step.
