Arjan, It should not matter wheter the variables are set via code or the webconsole. Both use the api. The testcase I looked at is in org/jbpm/jpdl/ from cvs DecisionExpression/condition/ strange.... does quantity have a value at all in your case? turn on debug to see if it does...
