JUBA, 18th August 2011 – Several secondary school teams in the Republic of South Sudan have been selected and are preparing to participate in the forthcoming East African Secondary Schools tournament to be held in Mbarara, Western Uganda between the 28th August and 4th September 2011. According to Mr. Wudu David Moses, a senior inspector of Co-Curricular Activities in the Ministry of Education, nine schools will participate in basketball (boys and girls), football (boys and girls), handball (boys and girls), volleyball (boys and girls), and netball (girls). He explained that the athletics track and field teams will be selected from all the schools in South Sudan. The education officer said that Bentiu Boys, Malakal Boys and Rumbek Girls will participate in basketball; Wau Day Secondary School and Yambio Girls’ Secondary School will participate in football; Juba Day Secondary School (boys) and Wau Comboni Girls’ Secondary School will present teams for handball; Bor Secondary School and Mbili Girls’ Secondary School will participate in volleyball; while Kajo Keji Girls’ Secondary School will present a netball team. The officer said that all the teams are expected in Juba by next week to prepare for the tournament. He said that the country has high expectations on the team to win medals in the games.
