Reading column/row titles in Excel

JAWS 16, windows 8.1, Excel 2013.  I believe I have followed the 
instructions for naming column titles with JAWS, *not using 
control-alt-insert-c.  I want to be able to save-as my document and 
have the column title announcement carry to the new document.  if 
someone has made this work, please send me step-by-step 
instructions.  I think I am step-by-stepping according to the 
JAWS  training materials, but my column titles are not being announced.
