The SuperBraille is essentially a laptop computer with a Braille display
and voice synthesizer built in. The visual display has been removed. A
monitor can be connected using the video port provided on the back of the
unit.
I finally got a call from its manufacturer over the weekend and found out a
few things which will help me get this thing set up in fairly short order.
Just in case any of you run across this little beastie and want to set one
up with JFW 3.2, here's what you need to know.
Installing JFW 3.2 on the SuperBraille
1. Install JFW 3.2 as normal, specifying desired synthesizers.
In order to use the built-in synth, specify Accent PC internal.
2. Specify Power Braille 40 as the Braille display, choose any com port,
though in fact no com port is going to be used.
3. Let installation proceed. When JFW comes up, you'll get the Braille Load
error. No problem. This can be solved by:
a. Editing the JFW.INI file in the c:\jfw32 directory. In the Braille section,
leave everything alone except the braille driver line, which should be
changed
so that it refers to "superbrl". Also, you can put a
semicolon in front of the port specification line just to be on the
safe side, even though the superbrl driver doesn't look for a port.
b. Copy superbrl.jlb from the aadfiles directory to the c:\jfw32 directory.
Restart JFW 3.2 and Braille should come up okay.
3. To ensure that Braille comes up in the DOS box with Perspective, the
on-board Braille program for the Super Braille, be sure
to edit the appropriate JFW config file and set braille sleep mode to 1.
I'll find out in a couple of days whether the above information is accurate
and whether the procedure actually works. Stay tuned...
