dan more than likely this person is low on memory resources, lacks c p u power,
or is using software that causes a problem.
this can be done.
the best way to increase memory resources is to go into
well i shall spell it out keystroke by keystroke.
hit win 9 x key
hit letter p for program
hit enter on accessories
arrow to system tools and hit enter
arrow to system information and hit enter
alt key plus letter t key keystroke
now you are under the tools option, arrow up to configuration utility.
hit enter
this tool is actually the same as the file m s config
now you need to realize that this page is a multipage dialogue box, also called
a control tab by microsoft.
such a layout has more than one page.
this layout is the same used by properties sheets if you are familar with them.
so here is how to use this powerful option for disableing applications from
loading.
i want to say that each page in this multipage dialogue box represents a
differant way that windows 9 x loads stuff into memory.
though it does not cover all methods.
so depending on the application you will pick the page or method used by that
application.
in this example i pick m s word, or more accurately office 97.
i know office 97 uses the start up to load part of its code during the boot up
process.
they do this so when you pick office application to run it will load faster.
my suggestion is unload this start up code, and three things will happen.
you free up a large chunck of memory, which can result in less crashes, and you
boot up twice ass fast into wwindows 9 x.
i do this on all my systems, of course if you live in word you may or may not
want to do this.
if you crash when running memory intensive applications like cd burner software
i highly recommend this.
first we need to understand how this menu is layout.
at the top of each page is a tab, that tab tells the user the name of the
page.
a sighted person can only see the top page.
the top sheets tab at the top that gives the title of the page is raised
slightly above the top sheet all the way over to the left edge.
one can not see the other pages, but one can see the tabs for the sheets under
neath.
so by counting the number of tabs one can count the number of pages.
the bottom page has its tab all the way over to the right.
jfw has 2 methods to move between these pages, now we shall cover the harder
method, which explains the layout of the page better.
tab through all your choices.
note that after tabbing jfw reads where you are.
eventually it may say cancel
this is usually the last choice at the bottom of the page, and tabbing one more
time puts the user at the top.
notice that jfw only says cancel, when you tab again jfw will say the choice of
where you are, and if that choice is the tab that is raised above the regular
page jfw will say the word tab after it announces the choice.
now that we are at the top we know that this page contains
general choices
because it says general tab
i like this harder method of moving between pages because it allows the user to
see what each page is before selecting the page.
the method we are using requires to be on the top tab to change pages.
hit the p c cursor
now use the right arrow key to move all the way over to start up.
jfw should say start up tab
tab one time
you are in a list box
arrow down to office start up
hit the space bar to uncheck it.
by default jfw does not read this heck box.
you have 2 options here, one can label the graphics here.
or one can use another method i learned from rob hubbard.
we shall use the rob method here.
after hitting the space bar we shall tab over to o k and hit enter.
presto now use control key plus function key f 4 keystroke to exit system
information, you can now use escape to exit the menus.
now reboot, just imagin enjoying a machine that boots twice as fast.
