well david here is a real good reason why hj should support
control plus alt plus delete keystroke end task menu.
more than likely your win 95 crash would have been prevented.
i personally am leary of installing win 98 on older hardware.
to many unexplained things, now i assume this system is older.
you did not say, but arken clones used to use older mother boards with no p s
2 mouse.
now if you want to retry win 98 i suggest seeing if the mother board has an
bios upgrade.
this is the approach i used before doing a win 98 upgrade, and all my stuff is
plug and play.
i noticed that my mother board, which is award bios, and many notebooks had
bios upgrades after the release of win 98.
in addition you are using an upgrade version on win 98?
if so you may want to try the version for new computers, microsoft has already
upgraded it once, and soon they will upgrade it again to a version that has
i e 5.
you see the upgrade may be more apt to work with older hardware as m s gets
better hardware support in win 98.
of course you must start from stratch.
also the original win 98 does not like u s robotics modems.
one needs to get driver from 3 com.

you are biteing off more than i would.
if the bios is version 1 you can go up to bios 2.0 to 2.03 depending on bios.
if bios is 4 then your mother board is much newer and can expect the latest
upgrade.
the 1 and 2 bios is limitted, by space, when 4 came out the bios was upgrade to
1 or 2 meg of memory makeing room for all kinds of upgrades.
2 meg is in systems with u s b.
no idea about your sill problem, totally stumped.
