agreed, but I've used the cd install before with no problems. it is
likely that the nav shield he had running caused the crash. I did not
disable it so that was an over site on my part.

no, I used the oem version and booted from its supplied floppy which
by the way is grand because it can force cd rom support on a system
even if the drivers are not there.
