dennis i was under the impression that a user could do all this in system
commander, as well.
at least that is what the author told me, of course he could not say if speach
would work when changeing
the default to another operating system.
he did say that once in the operating system one could change the default.
then after changeing one reboots, and if the person fails to enter anything in
about 10 seconds then it boots in a differant operating system, based on the
one you picked.
if you have tried this, and found it not to be speech friendly please let me
know.
or is it just a case of you not realizeing system commander had this ability?
one thing i do like about system commander is that after loading its initial
kernel it then checks that kernel for total byte size, if for any reason that
kernel is not right it will replace it with one on the harddrive.
this of course is step one in preventing viruses.
of course once again the boot manager in partition majic has the added cost
benefit of partition magic.
so far as value is concern it may be a better choice.
their i am in agreement with dennis, and the newest version of partition magic
is gui, but unlike its earlier version it is not a dos gui, but a win 98 gui,
and can be used by the blind.
not super friendly but useable, and no more than that type of program is used
it is plenty good enough.
one thing i want to warn you about, is priceing with your boot manager.
the reason i want to warn you is most people that use such a program always
want the latest and greatest, maybe because they test stuff.
i bought system commander about 2 years back, never got around to playing with
it, and now when a new operating system comes out to play with,
which is about once ayear, they want full price for an upgrade.
with that said, i think such a policy is rediculous
they should offer a minimum of 3 years worth of upgrades, or no more than 10
dollars for a new version.
so just be aware that you are tying your self to a program that may have an
anual cost.
usually software cycles are about 2 to 3 years.
