Hi,
I do not recall whether JAWS for DOS directly supports the Keynote speech
synthesizers. If it is not directly supported,
you can get a driver from Humanware that will allow your Keynote to emulate an Accent,
which is most definitely
supported. You might want to check out Humanware's Web site at
http://www.humanware.com for more information.
By default, the installation program for JAWS for DOS makes two modifications to your
autoexec.bat. First, it places an
additional entry on your path statement for the c:\jaws directory. This modification
isn't bad. Secondly, it adds lines to
the end of the file that cause it to automatically start JAWS when the machine boots.
This second modification is not
good, and should not be allowed to take place. As I recall, the JAWS installer does
allow you to forego these
modifications to autoexec.bat. You definitely should skip this step. You may
manually add the c:\jaws directory to your
path. I do not recommend the use of JAWS for DOS in this manner with Windows 95, 98
or NT. Just say no! Run
JAWS for DOS either from a DOS window, or after shutting down your machine to DOS.
As a result of these recommendations, JAWS for DOS would not be active during your
machine's booting process.
