Hi, Carol and all. I guess I can agree with both points of view on this
topic, Jonathan's and Shawn's. As we know, control-num pad plus will give
us the file names properly. You all may be interested to know that at my
job at Xerox where I am the only blind person in my department, people were
very happy when I posted this fix in an e-mail message to everyone.
Customers were having trouble locating files for installing and
re-installing our printer software, especially if they were novice computer
users.
However, the improved screen access would assist me with the two custom
design databases I must use with JAWS. Neither of them talk well at all,
some major script writing would have to be done to make them work. In this
situation, the standard windows keyboard shortcuts don't always work, or if
they do work, they are inconsistent from screen to screen in the program.
The more information I can get out of the database would help me do my job
better. The people who design these databases have not been in a hurry to
make them accessible though I've been able to give them reasons to do so
that would increase the bottom line and help sighted people do their jobs
better as well as helping me and other blind people do the job.
