I use CompuServe, but not primarily with JFW. I use TAPCIS, a dos-based
off-line reading program for CompuServe. I run the blindness section of the
disabilities forum onCompuserve.
Forums are like newsgroups, but discussion tends to be better focused and
there are less junk messages, and little or no spam.
Some people have had good luck with WinCIM 2.6, with JFW, 3.x and 4.x don't
work as well.
