Apologies if this has been resolved. On an 486, if there is a modem in the
system it is probably on COM2. The port would be detected, as Windows and
DOS look for the addresses, but the port would have to be disabled in the
BIOS to avoid a conflict. This would render the physical port on the back
of the system useless.
