Hi,
JFW, like most other screen readers, have their own particular driver for
the DoubleTalk, or they use the SSIL version from Arkenstone. The diskette
is needed mainly if you wish to use the internal DoubleTalk as a sound card,
or if you care to program the other functions of that synthesizer. The
"Double" in DoubleTalk is because it can be used for Text-to-Speech, (which
is what the majority of us use it for), or digital processing of wave-type
files.
The diskette is also used to install the DoubleTalk PC (the internal version
of DoubleTalk), as a Sound, Video, and Game Controller within the Device
Manager--it gives the card a space so the use of a SCSI scanner card won't
overlap the address the DoubleTalk occupies.
