I have had problems in the past because my computer insisted on running
scandisk if it had been shut down inappropriately (i.e. the switch on the
back). Sometimes when this happened, scandisk would ask for a floppy to be
inserted in the a drive for an undo file. This did not speak, so I didn't
know what was going on.
Anyway, I found out how to keep the system from running scandisk when it is
rebooted and will layout the procedure to be followed. I believe this to be
jfw related, since it determines getting access to your screen reader in the
first place.
But, since it is questionable as to whether or not it is related, I will not
answer any questions publicly, and advise everyone else to keep any public
comments to a minimum.
Warning, this involves the alteration of system files, and I take no
responsibility for what happens if you try this without adequate
precautions. Unless you have a real need to do this, don't try it. Enough
said.
1. Bring up Microsoft Explorer with the WindowsKey+e.
2. Go into the options menu and make sure that you can read hidden files.
3. Find the file called C:\MSDOS.SYS and highlight it.
4. Press alt+enter to bring up the properties menu for this file.
5. Uncheck the box that says "read only".
6. Find and press "ok".
7. Bring this file up in your favorite editor. (be sure that word wrap is
off and that you don't use anything that inserts formatting etc. like
MSWord.)
8. Find the line that says: [Options].
9. Insert the following line somewhere after this line:
autoscan=0
10. Save the file.
11. Pray you didn't make a mistake.
