Hi Scott, mediaring is a phone program, which I downloaded last night. With this program you can talk via your microphone to anyone else who is using the same program any where in the world. I don't know if jaws can work with it yet, but I will keep on experimenting to see if I can get jfw to work with it. For sighted people media ring or mediaring, mrtalk99, can enable one to make long distance calls via a local number, thus avoiding long distance calling charges. The catch is that only persons who have downloaded the program mediaring can talk to another person who also has it on their computer. The good news is that it is free. After the program was downloaded to my computer it was installed with jfw and all other programs closed out and when I rebooted jfw I heard nothing. For some reason, when the mediaring is installed it turned my volume setting to zero, causing the windows sound and the jfw to be silent. All I had to do to get jfw back up again was to go to the volume control and raise the sound level. Then jfw works just fine. You can choose to make or not make pre-arranged calls with another person. I had the phone changed in the properties, so that it would not automatically load on the monitor, which would be the best thing, if I were sighted and did not have to use the sound card for a screen reader. It is supposed to notify you of incoming calls and you can then answer the phone on your computer. If you download and install the program, remember to have a sighted person available, since you will need them to go to the volume control to adjust the volume so that jfw speaks when jfw is loaded.
