This is the situation where you need either to disable the automatic launch of
scandisk wwhenever you exit Windows in a way thought of as unpropper by Windows, or
you have to remove this hard drive check, and remember to run it every so often to be
sure the disk and file system is not beeing damaged from the unavoidable reboots that
this unstable system is so rightly famous for.
To disable the automatic launch of the scandisk. Make sure that you view files of all
types also hiden and system type, In explorer open the view menu and go to
propperties. Find the view tab tab to the first tree you meat arrow down to your find
the message something like show hiden and systems files off. The double negation means
that you in explorer windows cannt see system and hiden files. after this go you tour
boot drive often the c drive find a file called msdos.sys. Do not let the filename
fool you it is a text file. Open the file with a text editor, you can choose one from
the list of programs you are asked to pig from since Windows does not have associated
a program to launch on files called *.sys.
Find the line that says:
AutoScan=0
And here is the hard part I think you should set the value to 2 or higher. I think 0
means autoscan will take place when you exit Windows in a nonacceptable way. Either
ask here about the correct vallue or try to edit and force windows to run scandisk,
e.g. by switching the computer of insted of celect the shot down option in the start
menu.
A second sollution in a way the easiest one is to learn to fly scandisc without
speech. The good rule here is a combination of a lot of escape alt+f4 and tab and
shift+tab will eventually work. The worst that can happen is that scandisk wants to
create an undo disk, but much working with the escape and alt+f4 tab and schift+tab
and some threats to the computer involving calling Bill Gates will eventually get you
through.
Finally you can start Windows on the dos prompt load a dos screenreader and this will
give you speech output because scandisc is run in the dos version before all speech
from the dos screenreader is gone. Be ware I am used to a Danish dos screenreader that
is not known in the U.S. but this should be true no matter what screenreader you use.
