There are ways to clean up the registry. There's REGCLEAN from Microsoft
and a number of other tools available on the net. Also, if you use a
program like Norton Uninstall Deluxe, your registry won't become such a
mess. Basically, the only thing that's seriously impacted by a registry
full of references to old programs is performance because of the size of
the file. I've heard of very few genuine system problems resulting from
an out-of-date registry.
