hi listers,
my most sincere and humble apology for a rather lengthy post. Here it goes.
I tried to re-install jfw3.3, as I talked about this morning, if some of you
might remember. well, I'm sorry to say that it was an utter disappointment.
So, now I'm without jfw3.3, but thanks to jfw3.2 that I did not delete and
hanged on to it for a potential rainy day, such as like this one.
what happened, I clicked the setup button, and the opening screen came up
all right. Dr. Jaws examined the system and approved it. The next screen
gave me 2 options, and I picked up 'custom-install' out of those. then the
next screen asked me which drive i'd install jfw, and gave me a list of
drive that included my desired drive, so I chose drive e. Then after few
screens, it gave me synthesizer options, first I picked up eloquence, as I
did before, next synthesizer I picked dectalk express, here jaws asked me
what comport I'd choose for dectalk express, and gave me a list from #1
through # 4. I wasn't certain which comport to select, so I, just on a
spin of a coin, selected comport 2. I also picked up, from this screen,
flextalk as an additional synthesizer. After that, jaws asked me to select
braille display devices, so first I selected braille lite 40, and jaws asked
me again what comport I wanted for braille lite, this time, without any
conscious knowledge, I chose comport 4. Then jaws asked me if I wanted
another braille display, I said 'yes' and selected Rabit, jaws again asked
what comport, again I picked up comport 4. Jaws had oked the selections,
and proceeded with the rest of the installation process, following
confirmation with me. after installing several files, jaws said some thing
like this, installation is complete successfully, I can read the 'read-me'
file for new features, press ok
to run jaws. Here I hit ok button, and jaws went dead. There might be some
error message which I could not detect, although I loaded jaws 3.2 and tried
to find the error message, if it was there at all.
I repeated the process at least 3 times but with no luck.
What I was doing wrong here? Does it make a difference to select a wrong
comport? How should I know how many comports I have, and what I have on
which? Is it possible that jaws must be searching for the braille devices
when they weren't there? Do I need to install something else before
selecting braille display devices?
any help will be highly appreciated.
