i had this similar problem with jfw 33 what it appears to be doing is putting 
your synthesizers in alphebetical order so it is  likely searching for dec 
express  and of course if dec is on the wrong com it won't talk. i just got 
someone sighted and opened three three and then went to the jaws wendow and 
changed my synthesizer to elequence then i went to the default manger and 
changed elequence to my default synth. hope this helps.
