Yes JAWS does read the task tray and the system tray, but it doesn't read
all the running programs loaded at start up. If you press Alt, control and
Delete you bring up a list of all the running applications including those
running in the background. Unfortunately JAWS stops speaking which means you
can't choose some programs to shut them down because they do not appear
anywhere else. Apparently WindowEyes can read this task list but JAWS
definitely can not. It is frustrating for me at present because one of these
programs is stopping my hard disk from spinning down by regularly accessing
it and I am unable to isolate it. It would be nice to see a fix for it in
the next release of JAWS.

Ins f10 reads the items currently running, that is, the same as if you
examined the taskbar in the usual way. ins f11 reads the items on the sys
tray, that means the items that are loaded at start-up.
