Here are instructions for assigning sounds to events.

To assign or re-assign sounds to Windows events:
1. Open My Computer.
2. Arrow down to Control Panel and press Enter.
3. Arrow to Sounds and press Enter.
4. Arrow down to the Windows event (e.g. Exit Windows) you want to assign or
re-assign a sound to.
5. Press Alt-b to select the Browse button.
6. Press Shift-Tab to go in to the list of sound files in the default sounds
folder.
7. Arrow to a sound that you think you would like to assign and press Enter.
8. Press tab four times to move to the play sample button.
9. Press Enter to hear the sound sample. To repeat the sound sample, press
Enter again.
10. If you like the sound, tab to the OK button and press Enter. If you do
not like the sound, repeat steps 5 - 7, followed by step 9 until you find a
sound that you like.

Hi, thank you for this information. What I would like to do is to assign
certain sounds that happen when certain things occur. For example, when a
window opens, I have a bird chirping, when it closes a doorbell rings--don't
ask me why I chose it that way--I just did. Anyway, I think you get the
idea. This guy needs all of the clues he can have. Any help with this
would be much appreciated.
