answer to the first question is to tab to it, hit shift+f10 and find
the quicklaunch bar with up and down arrow hit ddelete and it is
gone. you can delete other stuff to if you like.
I've no real help for you with the second question except to make
certain you are using the pc cursor, hide the taskbar and maximize the
screen.
