I have posted below the response of JAWS to his problem when I raised it
with them. While I am not a technical expert, I don't believe they are
dealing with the problem. It is important that this be resolved so that we
can keep up with the same software being used by our sighted colleagues.
Dear Mr. Thomas:
If this error in Word 2000 only occurs when JAWS is running, may indicate
that
your PC is having conflicts with its video setup and the JAWS program. To
confirm this, unload JAWS and test to see if the error occurs when JAWS
isn't
running. If the error does take place, you should contact Moicrosoft's
technical support for help with their Word 2000 product. However, if the
problem only occurs when JAWS is running, you should log on to the
Henter-Joyce
web site on the internet at
<http://www.hj.com/TechSupport/JFWTS/JFWVideo/JFWVCCOM.htm>
for a list of video cards that have been tested with JAWS. There may be some
recommended setting there that you may try. If your card is not on the list,
you may wish to change to another video driver, (AKA display adapter), to
see if that helps. In particular, you should consider installing a 16-bit
video driver for your video card, for they seem to work best with JAWS.
