I think it might take a while for the new voices to be loaded.
wait a few seconds on each voice in the combo box and see what happens.

The MS Speech that JFW uses isn't the same as that for K1000. You'll need
to install the Ms Speech from the JFW CD (as instructed by the README file
in that directory), etc.
