Go to the default configuration manager. Go to keyboard options in the
set options menu. The key labels page comes up. This tells you what
jaws says when you hit a particular key. What you have to do is
manually change all the labels for the numPad keys. If you need any
more help, let me know. You're right it is very annoying! And it's one
more example of the excessive verbosity of the new jaws.

Subject: JFW 3.31 saying umpad
Maybe this has already been dealt with, but I am finding that
JFW 3.31 says the word "numpad" before every single number when it is
the
numlock on position. That is very annoying. How can I get rid of it?
On a very positive note, however, I want to tell all of you that we
installed the latest version of JFW on my two computers at the
university
this morning, and then, we went in and cranked up the graphics, e.g.
changed the color setting from 250 colors to "true 32 bit color" and
the
resolution up to 800 x 600, and the screen looks great for my sighted
colleagues and JFW works great too.
