Hi Deedra,
First I'm new to this board, so pardon my abbreviations. I was sighted for
40 years so I know computers as I built them for the government and then for
a small business that I ran.
I am running the SoundBlaster AWE64. The Live version isn't that much
different with the exception of the number of voice channels. Make sure you
are utilizing 3D Stereo Enhancement. This is a selectable setting under
Control Panel then System, then Device Manager and finally Sound, Video and
Game Controllers. In first sound selection and then under the Settings Tab
which is the audio driver. In addition set your Typematic Rate faster in the
CMOS, this should cure the problem. If you are using a true SoundBlaster --
use the software that came with it -- not the generic Windows95 drivers. As
I do, you'll need sighted assistance to perform this task. Unfortunately
Corel WordPerfect, MSWord and other word processors will still stutter
occasionally -- but it's livable. Finally, try speeding the speech rate up
in jfw, takes some getting used to, but it's worth it in the long run. If
you have trouble hearing the faster speech rate, lower the tone level -- not
the volume! For example, take "Sandy" and make her speak faster, but with a
more 'husky' tone. We humans have trouble hearing in the high or treble
range. My Leader Dog Jonah can, but that doesn't do me any good as my
efforts to teach him to type have failed <LOL>. Evidently you are a fast
typist, so jfw has difficulty keeping up with the Creative Labs/SoundBlaster
software and itself.
Let me know at [EMAIL PROTECTED] how it comes out. Maybe I can dig into
my Tech CD and find out more.
Lotsa Luck,
Doc
