Actually, with a Soundblaster Live, JFW will run with multimedia stuff just
fine. This is because the SBLive has multi-channel capability letting the
speech and other sounds happen simultaneously. I think there are other sound
cards with multi-channel capability, but I don't know which ones they are.
I've had excellent luck using my SBLive, and would incourage you to
exparament without the fear of conflicts with JFW caused by other sounds. I
would caution you however, that many aplications are so graphical that even
JFW can't help much in accessing them. I edit a magazine which deals with
computer games accessable to the blind. I get several people writing in
telling me that they can't play action games like Quake with speech
software. It is important to keep in mind that speech software can't
describe complex and rapidly changing graphics like those in a fast-action
arcade game. I think some folks expected a running commentary as they played
or some such thing.
Well, I suppose that was a bit long-winded. I hope it helps clarify stuff a

I am not sure if live is the model of sound blaster. If so, it's new to me.
At any rate, I would suggest speeding up the echo settings in your keyboard
response. I have mine set to echo fast, and I have also set them up for
words.
As far as using JAWS with some multimedia software, I don't think that it is
possible. I have a CD that would not run if I am using JAWS through my sound
card.
