Hello Jeff,

No, .BMP is an extension for bit-mapped images. In other words, it is a
graphic image that JFW can't read. Your instructor will have to use an
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program to convert the text in the
scanned file into actual text that can be read by JFW. The converted file
would have a .TXT extension and could be opened in any word processing
application.

Regards,

Alan

Hello to all on the list. I am in the process of making some changes to the
way that I get assignments here at Ferris State University. Instead of
getting them on tape, I'm exploring the possibility of all handouts and
forms being sent directly to me via E-mail as attachments. In some cases
this has worked successfully, but there is one instructor who is sending
materials to supportive services to be scanned and eventually sent to me via
E-mail as attachments.
I just have a question regarding files with a BMP extension. Will BMP
files work with MS Word? I've got MS Word-97, but I'm not sure about BMP
files. What is that extension? Any help would be appreciated, and thanks
in advance.
