Glad to help. A M U D is a multi user dungeon or dimension. If you've ever played any
sort of R P G like Dungeons and Dragons, the experience is very similar.
You start out with a weak character, which is usually defined as a fighter, thief,
magician or cleric. You travel around picking up goodies like gold and armor and
magical items, some of which can make you harder to kill. It's great fun if you like
this sort of thing, which I do. And in addition to the combat between you and the
computer generated monsters, you can just hang out and chat with other players. Some
MUDS lean more to socializing and others more to adventuring. Also, there are
different kinds of MUD programs, which can radically change your gaming experience.
There are Aber MUDS, DIKU MUDS, LP MUDS, Circle MUDS, and a bunch of others. They all
have their idiosyncrasies and pleasures and faults, you just end up with one that you
like best --or a number that you like best.
They're great fun, but as I know from experience, can be a terrible waste of time when
you have other things to do.
