Hi David,
I also appreciate all the help you provide. I have another wrinkle for you!
This morning, I tried to go to my compensation plan's web site. They
recently upgraded to a more secure site, and therefore require a 128 bit
encrypted vrowser. No problem, I thought as I had 128 bit IE4, and when I
upgraded to IE5 from the Jaws CD, I assumed that encryption transferred.
However, when I could not get on the Deferred Comp site, I went into help
and about in IE5 and learned that I had a 40 bit siber strength version. So
the fun began! I tried to go to Microsoft's site and saw an upgrade to
IE5.01 which included the 128 bit version. I didn't want 5.01, so I made a
couple of calls to Citibank, and then to my I.S.P. Here's a tip for anybody
wanting to upgrade their security with IE5, as told to me by my I.S.P rep.
If you go to help and about in IE5, you'll see the siber strength you have,
most likely either 40 or 128. If you wish to upgrade from 40 to 128, you
move the Jaws cursor to the word "update". Place the Jaws cursor on any
character in the word "update", not on the parentheses, but on the actual
word. Then click the left mouse button, and you are taken to the Microsoft
site and the page where the patch can be downloaded. It's pretty easy from
there to upgrade your security. The file is called MSIE128.exe, about 220KB
in size. I ran the patch, and now have a 128 bit encrypted version of
IE5.0. This probably relates to what you reported about the version of IE5
on the Jaws CD. I just thought that if the update saw a 128 bit version, it
would automatically update it, as many have told me. Not true. Sorry for
the lengthy message, but others may wish to upgrade their version, and this
is the easiest way to do this. By the way, I can now access the Deferred
Comp site, which is what started all of this in the first place.
Best Regards,
Les
