Dear All,

I have a request: can we have different groups to share views. We can be
critical friends to each others but it would be more productive for us if we
have different groups, in the web site to share our views.

Regards

  Dear Venkitesh,
Having lived in Jharkhand for a decade I have met Prof Munda. He is neither
one-sided, nor a liar. He is an extremely popular academic person.
You have said that Panos are trying to get ST certificates and someone else
has said that Padmanabha Behera is giving false ST certificates. This is very
wrong. But it was done by dishonest people who should be punished. Along with
the Kui people, all Dalits, all Hindus, all Christians, all Muslims, all
Oriyas, all Indians, all human beings should protest against corruption and
against ministers who cheat poor people. But do not divide Kuis against Pano/
Pana harijans. That is what dishonest people want and which has been done in
the past.
Do not support violence in the name of teaching World Vision a lesson. If
World Vision is making mistakes- (I know they have been criticized in South
America in the past), that should not be a reason to think that all its staff
are dishonest. Many who work for them are young people looking for jobs. It is
important to record their faults and lodge a case or report it to the
Government of Orissa. They can not receive foreign funds and work in a village
without the state police knowing. A BJP alliance government is allowing them to
work! Ministers may be corrupt in this government if they are letting an
organization work despite problems that you suggest. But you should not burn
their office. Nor should you think that all Hindus support Swamy Saraswati or
all Christians support World Vision. It is not right to burn Catholic Churches
to protest against World Vision. It would not be right to burn Ramakrishna
Mission dispensaries or Mandirs just because one thinks ill of Swamy
  Laxman Saraswati.
By the way, was Swamiji attacked. Possibly not. What exactly is the case- in
which thana? Who was attacked? Who are accused? Who has been arrested? Why are
the rioters not satisfied with the investigation or action of the police?

The real issue is Poverty apparently. And greed. People who ask for
reservation are either needy or else greedy. If there was no Poverty in Orissa
there might still be greed. We should try to solve the Poverty and meanwhile
also make sure that Hindus, Christians, Communists, Dalits, Tribals, Brahmins,
doctors, learn not to be greedy.

The article is extremely one sided and blatantly pro Christian. Nor
surprising since it is led by a Christian. The whole fact finding only
focuses on the dalit Christians and does not even touch on hte concerns of
the tribals!!! Why was the World Vision office destroyed. There is no
answer. Why did the minister resign, again no answer.

*The article does not even mention that Swami Swamy Laxmanananda Sarswati
and his drivers were attacked, instead it goes on this anti VHP diatribe*,"*
*There are allegations that were was instigation by VHP/RSS members under
the > leadership of Swamy Laxmanananda Sarswati resulted into violence in
Bramanigoan and other parts on 25 th December.**
The issue here is very straightforward. It is of reservations for dalit
christians... The Christian leaders want them to be include amongs the
poorer tribals so that theey will enjoy the reservations. Obviously the Kui
tribals will be adbversely affected. and this led to the violence.

  The fact finding says,
*4. *There is a general view outside that this violence is connected to
  > the bandh called by Kui Samanvay Samithi on 25-26 th of December 07 to
  > protest the demand of Panos to be included in Scheduled tribe category.
  > But
  > in Bramanigoan, team found no such evidences to connect these two
  > issues. """""*
  **
*That is the mother of all lies. The fact finding does not even touch on
  this core issue.*
*Here is an October 9th report from the Hindu:*
  *Communal tension in Kandhamal *
