That fix created the "camera-moving-out-of-the-way" effect specifically and only with "set windowCenetered OFF".

On your test page, I still see the effect after issuing
set windowCentered on

That zip file I referred to earlier, Frieda, DOES have these fixes, so if you try those .jar files and have some feedback for us, please to let us know.

I have downloaded and tested the moving camera effect head to head by placing the .jar files into a tutorial and running both new and old (10.00.46) versions. The "moving camera" effect is pretty different from what one expects using manual rotation, and thus could make Jmol (in that state) less intuitive to use, so I do not think it would be good for a default. But it might come in very handy as an optional state, particularly for using moveTo.

Regarding the increase in zoom available by turning perspective depth off, the question becomes whether perspective depth can be switched on and off without causing too much distraction for the viewer. I think it can be managed with careful scripting (i.e., switch on/off when zoom level is 100, not too much higher). Of course it would be optimal not to have to turn off perspective depth.

Rotating around a zoomed in selected set with perspectivedepth off will presumably be very similar to doing so in Chime (since Chime had no perspective depth, I mean), so once the switch has been made, the rotation will feel 'normal'.
