If I am interpreting what you want correctly, namely a message to appear in the applet window after the applet loads and before the molecule appears, you can issue an echo command immediately after the load command, and then remove the echo at the end of the display script for the structure. Often this delay in appearance is very short, however, and the message barely appears if at all. But if you happen to be working with a very large file or a slow server (at least, that is what I blame for an unusually long a delay in appearance, say several seconds), I have found it to be useful.
