Hi,

Did you enable the plugin with the final step mentioned on the jmol wiki?:

  open Firefox, select Tools > Addons, and enable the Java plug-in

You may also need to disable the IcedTea plugin (which uses openjdk)
from the same menu.

I installed jre 1.6.x

According to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp, you need the
32 bit version for applet support.

> - should I do the symbolic link with /usr/lib/mozilla or /usr/lib64/mozilla

I'm not sure about that; I made the symbolic link within my home
directory, at ~/.mozilla/plugins/ (I'm the main user of my machine and
I don't have full root access to be able to put things elsewhere).
The ~/.mozilla/ directory should exist for you already but you may
have to mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
