I decided to try Quicktime Pro. I have succeeded in making 1024 x 768 pixel movies in mp4 and wmv formats, from jpg files written by Jmol. All my movies so far are of "trace 0.4" rendering with antialiasdisplay on. The movies look almost as good as the jpg images -- very satisfactory. For other renderings, e.g. spacefill, I did not spend much time but the image quality after movie-compression may be less satisfactory. I have incorporated what I learned into the Jmol wiki section on "Creating Movies" http://wiki.jmol.org/index.php/Creating_Movies If you have no experience, please ask about anything that is not clear.
