I'm with Jad on this one... Comparing ourselves to windows dooms any possibilities of success we might have. Because we will not only be facing the technical issues, but also, user habits. And frankly from my experiences in trying to persuade people to use linux, this is _the_ obstacle we need to overcome.
Whatever the task is, the reply would be, but I do it differently in windows. Not necessarily faster, or easier, or better. It's different, and people are accustomed to it. That's why during the install fest we recently had, when I gave a little session at the end of the day, I emphasized the point that we are not competing with windows, and we are not a windows replacement. We are something else, that does things differently. At that point people stopped asking me why isn't there a C:, or why there isn't a "network places" icon. They started asking "How do I do X", and at that point I started showing them how being different could be beneficial to them. GNU/Linux is a terrible windows replacement.
