I didn't know that! Nuts -- my friend who had the soundtrack and taped it for me had the post-joni version -- which I assume is closer to what you described but without Joni's voice. I'm sure I'd like the acoustic/piano version better, too. As much as I like the TtT version, it's a little..."muddy" sounding to me (I'm not sure what the technical word or explanation is for this; putting it metaphorically, it sounds to me like there's not enough space between the various sounds.)
