Conratulations Joe, and my many many thanks to Bob (Mr. Covers) for the wonderful "Covers and Contributions #25".
I've been listening to this CD all weekend and it is indeed another great treasure of Joni covers from people whom I've never heard of (with the exception of Dick Hyman) I did have a moog synthesizer lp of his in the 70's. There's some GREAT stuff on this covers CD. Some of it is quite romantic, and maybe should be called Joni UNDER the Covers. My favorites are the the Spanish version of BSN by Txarango, BYT from Kenny Vehkavarra & Silvio Simone, and both of the songs by Christine Tobin Band. Like you said Bob, I've listened to Bill Laswell's version of "Blue" and there is NO "Joni" Blue to be found, but I love the song anyway. I know that most of the covers of Joni's "This Flight Tonight" have drifted to the heavy metal side, but I think the Mama's Boys rendition is the best I've heard yet and not to heavy at all. I guess "This Flight Tonight" is *the* JONI tune that can be played in a heavy metal style more than any of her other songs. Anyway, I just love them all and I thank you Bob ( and all the contributors) for continuing this great project.
