greetings joniphiles ! i really enjoyed reading this post: partly because it brought back memories, and partly because i thought it was a wonderful way to introduce a new generation to one of pop music's conssumate artists ! when i was in high school, we're talking late 60's early 70's, i had a gradute student for an english teacher. he assigned us a similar project with the exception that we were to pick the artist. naturally i picked joni, and since LOTC had just been released i choose "for free," " conversation," ( one of my favorite songs ) and " rainy night house," to include in my project. i had a crush on the teacher and the fact that i thought the assignment was so cool deepened that feeling. ( it was the first crush i had on an older man that i actually knew ! ) i digress...on with the matter at hand. we had to hand out lyrics, give a biography, tell why we choose the artist, and play the music. after we played the music we were responsible for heading a disscussion and answering questions. i had such fun with the assignment and was surprised that the majority of the class had know idea who joni was. ( that's what you get for going to high school with a bunch of southern red-necks !) after class the teacher pulled me aside and said i was a breath of fresh air amongst all the "necks." needless to say i was dreamy eyed and weak in the knees. then when i finally got around to going to college in the mid 80's i took an intro to poetry class. the teacher assigned a similar task as the high school teacher had. this time i picked ' reoccurring dream." we had to recite the lyrics, play the artists version of the song, and head a disscussion. i got a similar response in that most of my fellow students were not familiar with our joan. i had not thought about these experiences in a while and when i did i got the " warm and fuzzies ! " thanks for a stoll down memory lane...
fond memories of joni, warren keith p.s. bob, i haven't forgotten about my joni concert/meeting story. it is forthcoming...
