To think... while I heard of Jaco's death on the TV news, aged 16 and not yet a bass player, I didn't know who he was. The full impact came six or so years later when I picked up Hejira. There's an official Jaco Pastorius web site, by the way, run by Ingrid Pastorius and other family members. Lots of personal messages from them too, which is so touching. They've had some issues too, from the usual low-life internet crowd, but seem to be getting over it.
