Greetings List -- Happy Birthday Joni!
I think Nonesuch is doing an excellent job of promoting Joni's new release. There's a big banner ad at the top of the Arts section of the online New York Times, with links to listen to -- and order -- the new lp. The notes on the site are extremely well written and informative, and the tie-ins with the PBS show and the documentary should give the lp a sustained momentum (I hope). I have been listening to Travelogue for a few weeks. In the liner notes, Klein pleads for an open ear, and with good reason. At first listen it's easy to reject some of the orchestration as cloying, or overly embellished. But the lp only grows better as one settles into it and starts to accept these new versions on their own terms. Some gems like "The Dawntreader" are nothing short of spectacular. Perhaps many people who still identify Joni with songs like BYT will finally discover the post-C&S Joni. Let's hope! I've been waiting for the release date to comment at length, but I urge those who had problems with BSN to give the new release a chance. Best, David
