I am not sure if I want to know how it is suppose to sound, I know how it sounds in my head and I like it that way. Reminds me of when I was in middle school and my friends and I debated how to pronounce the last syllable in "Gandalf" from the Rings Trilogy. I heard it with the L pronounce; one of my friends pronounced it like half or calf, without the L. The movie proved me correct, 34 years later.
With Hejira, I hear Heh+J[eye]+rah -- the i is long like the word "eye."
