sometimes a friend bears the weight of all our associations.  a child bears
(and sometimes resents) the name of her grandmother.  a pet might bear so
many more unreasonable dreams.  i admit, i've loved pippin both for the
tolkeinish name, and also for the musical comedy name.  i shared that with
ashara.

but i have also loved pippin, the dog, through many years and jonifests, for
his good nature, his gentle companionship...  he has been one of the
sweetest mammals i've been blessed to cross paths with.  i deeply respect
you, ashara, for forthrightly facing the decision you have to make.  i send
so much love and support your direction, to you and pippin.  the end of his
life will be as deeply cared-for as the rest of his life has been, and that
is truly a blessing.  he couldn't have been luckier...
