Many of you remember The Advocate's scurrilous review of the Ethel Merman Disco Album I posted . It was shameful. Well, this week, a man from near my NY home town wrote to The Advocate and "straightened" them out. Excerpt:

As an out reporter who favorably reviewed The Ethel Merman Disco Album for Billboard in 1979, I don't think you should be so quick to dismiss Merman's effort. At the time, she was the biggest (in many ways) Broadway star to do disco. Disco was a fun era and must have had something going for it, since many young gays and straights are enjoying its current revival at some clubs and on major FM radio outlets. Perhaps reviewer Dave White has become a tad jaded, what with all the great music being ground out now by the creatively bankrupt music industry - such muck as boy bands, girl bands, some rap, hip-hop, and God knows what.

Sounds like someone we know..............
