I would guess that the IBM name behind WebSphere was a convincing
factor.
As the saying goes.... "no one ever got fired for buying...."
Also... someone mentioned on this list that they might be holding up
the 1.0 specification while waiting for the reference implementation
to be completed. That struck me as pretty funny.... having never seen
a Sun reference implementation (other than early access) released at
the same time as a specification.
