As you might have heard, Sun announced at JavaOne last summer that they
were going to contribute the source code of JSWDK to the Jakarta project
(http://jakarta.apache.org), and several of the key Apache JServ
developers (including myself) are now involved with Jakarta. This is
the logical successor of the Apache JServ project, and will incorporate
the best technical ideas from the new JServ release that was being
worked on.

There were business process and legal hassles to work out, but that's
all over with -- you can now download the current version of the Tomcat
servlet 2.2 and JSP 1.1 engine, with an experimental connector to
Apache, from the Jakarta web site. This will be packaged as a "release"
at some point in the future, probably after the Apache linkage is
solidified. Sun will separately continue to use the Tomcat code as the
basis for their reference implementation JSWDK releases.
