Jon, I think you've lost it. My g4-800 was $1500. I put in extra pc-133 memory I had at the house and a 60gig drive. I already had a monitor. So now for $1500 I have a pretty kick ass system (better than my x86 system). Now sure how you are getting the $3000 price? If nothing else, check out frys or comp-usa for previous models - I think one of the compusas in Phoenix metro area had some good deals less than $2000 for pretty good machines.

A wicked cool G4 667mhz will be about $3000 with 512 megs of ram and Apple will even give you a 24 month interst only loan for it. Very Very tempting and I am having a hard time with it but the truth is another $500 for office and all I really have is a machine that can maybe do exactly what I already have. I am really sweating over this one... -----Original Message----- From: Art Gramlich To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Sent: 6/3/02 9:18 AM Subject: RE: [jug-discussion] new Mac questions Jon, I would avoid any g3 now. -----Original Message----- From: Jon Thomas [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 12:26 PM To: 'Tucson-Jug ' Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [jug-discussion] new Mac questions Ok. I really want to start playing with OSX but haven't touched a mac in years. Here is my question. I don't want to pay 2500 for a laptop so the powerbook is out. The iBooks are g3 and max out at approximately 640megs. Assuming that eclipse will have a decent ide going for the mac could I do serious development on this box? Will I be bottlenecked by processor limitations or memory cap issues? I think I could stomach the $1500 or so for the iBook if I felt like it would be a good investment for a few years. Any advice from you apple fans would be very appreciated.
