Just a note. In these days I am working around a course for newbies of
GIS, using OJ.
I think that a warning message, by the time that user delete
geometries, which ask if user want really to delete them, should be
useful - to avoid confusions.
I think we have a nice undo/redo manager which makes confirmation dialog
less useful than if we hadn't.
If such a feature is added, I think it should be optional.
Other possible advanced options :
confirm if more than xx feature will be deleted
confirm if features out of the view will be deleted
red warning in the status bar if ...

no reason not to have both. from my point of view, feel free to
add it after 1.6 .
many applications i know provide identical main menu items as
context menus to provide a structured access as well as a fast
contextual one.
